    Prof Laurence Weinberg is the Director of Anaesthesia at Austin Hospital, Victoria, Australia. He has dual appointments as an Associate Professor in the Anaesthesia Perioperative Pain Medicine Unit, Melbourne Medical School, and the Department of Surgery, Austin Health, University of Melbourne. He also an Honorary Consultant Anaesthetist, at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Victoria, Australia.

    Dr Weinberg’s key clinical and academic interests include provision of anaesthesia for cardio-thoracic surgery (including complex aortic surgery), hepatobiliary-pancreatic surgery (including liver transplantation), and major abdominal and vascular surgery. He has a specific interest in provision of anaesthesia for high-risk patients undergoing high-risk complex surgery. His clinical expertise is coupled with a strong academic interest.

  • Nick Scurrah

    I am a medically trained doctor and have undertaken specialty training in anaesthesia. After completing 6 years at Monash University and obtaining honours for my primary medical degree I did my internship at Monash Medical Centre. I then began basic physician training at the Austin Hospital and completed a further two years of subspecialty medical jobs before applying for and being accepted onto the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists 5 year training program. This training was undertaken at the Austin and its affiliates, Royal Children’s Hospital, Mercy Hospital for Women and Monash Medical Centre. At the end of my training I travelled to the UK and worked for 2 years at Addenbrookes NHS Trust in Cambridge with further training in anaesthesia for liver transplantation and neurosurgery. I currently work as a VMO Specialist in Anaesthesia at Austin Health where I provide elective and emergency anaesthesia for complex patients scheduled for surgery in a variety of subspecialties including hepatobiliary surgery, neurosurgery and thoracic surgery amongst others. In private practice I work predominantly at Warringal, Epworth, and Knox, providing anaesthesia for oral surgery, neurosurgery, and orthopaedic surgery, general surgery including bariatrics, endoscopy and cardiac catheter lab.

  • Brett Pearce

    Brett PearceSpecialist Anaesthetist

    Dr Brett Pearce is Deputy Head of Anaesthesia at The Surgery Centre, Austin Health and is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at Melbourne University Medical School.

    Dr Pearce is a highly skilled anaesthetist specialized in providing anaesthesia for complex surgery and in particular hepato-biliary surgery. He is one of 9 anaesthetists currently credentialled to perform liver transplant surgery in Victoria and regularly provides anaesthesia for complex major surgery. His other clinical interests include pain management.

    Dr Pearce has a strong academic interest and has published over 20 peer-reviewed papers. He is actively engaged in teaching and training the next generation of anaesthetists, and is one of the deputy directors of the anaesthesia department at Austin Health.
