After leaving school I trained as a dental assistant and studied to achieve my Dental Assistant Certificate of Accreditation. After working in the dental field for some years I then made the transition into the medical field working as a secretary/practice manager. I have nearly 30 years of experience working with varied medical specialists including dermatology, plastic surgery, vascular surgery and podiatry.
I thoroughly enjoy my current position of medical secretary in medical oncology and liver, pancreas and biliary surgery. I thrive on being the first port of call and arranging all aspects of treatment/surgery for our patients in a friendly efficient manner.
I reside with my husband and three busy teenage children in a mud brick house in semi- rural Victoria.
I am a dedicated medical secretory with a passion of helping patients. I enjoy supporting patients and ensuring they are always attended to in a timely manner. I believe that is imperative that all our patient’s journey in our practice should be as smooth as possible and that we create a friendly environment.
I have been a medical secretary/transcriptionist for around 30 years, mainly in Melbourne but also in Cape Town, South Africa, London, England and Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. My work allows me to delve into the intricacies of medicine without actually being a doctor or nurse.
I originally graduated from Melbourne University with a B.A. degree and taught typing and shorthand, English, Art, French and German in secondary schools for many years. I eventually abandoned this for the computer and have since only worked in hospitals and private practice, especially enjoying correcting doctors' English! My outside interests include writing, reading, travel, art, languages, gardens and animals.
DeniseClinical Nurse and clinical Research Coordinator
I am a registered nurse with extensive clinical experience in oncology and upper gastrointestinal surgery. I have worked as a nurse co-ordinator at Austin health for 9 years and have recently taken up the role of clinical research nurse and am coordinating the Austin Health Familial Pancreatic Screening study and a clinical trial (PanCO - A Pilot Study of OncoSil™) assessing a novel method for treating locally advanced for pancreatic cancer. I am passionate about helping patients to negotiate their journey, whether for treatment of a relatively minor condition or a life changing cancer diagnosis.
